Had a day out yesterday driving through the Tuscan countryside took us to three gorgeous towns ....

Enjoying morning tea with the gang in San Gimignano ....

Lovely to show David the beautiful town of San Gimignano .... I was last here with my mother 5 years ago ....

Delicious fruit tarts ....

Amazing churches ...

Sienna ....

Montepulciano was amazing too ....

Heading back home we captured the beautiful hillside town of Cortona where we are staying ....

And cranked up the outdoor pizza oven and created our dinner !

Another spectacular Tuscan sunset .... And a cool drink with my sister ....

Cortona, Italy

We are now in a villa in Cortona in Tuscany .... very much out of the pages of "Under the Tuscan Sun" .....

We are with my sister and her husband and family and some of their friends.  They are celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary and I was Wendy's bridesmaid and Pete was Greg's best man!   Such a great way to celebrate!!  That's my sister in orange with her husband Greg and David and I together with Peter and his wife Lisa .... On our way to a beautiful dinner last night !!

The gardens are full of olive trees and beautiful flowers ....

The wine and food is amazing ....

And the closest I have come to stitching is finding this beautiful old machine in an eye ware shop ...

The sunflowers are amazing too ....

Resting and relaxation are the order of the day .... Although we did walk to the top of the hill today .... one hour uphill... to walk off some of those lovely pastries they do so well here !!

Sydney to Italy

Here we are in Florence after an overnight stopover in Tokyo, an overnight in Rome and now a couple of days in Florence !

Here are the men all ready for a traditional Japanese dinner .... Which was delicious !

We were in Narita across the road from a beautiful temple .... Not very far from the airport !

I did a little bit of stitching on the plane .... The food and service on Finnair from Japan to Helsinki was amazing!   Even the menu looked gorgeous!

We arrived in Rome late and desperate to walk after being on planes for far too long we headed off to visit the Trevi Fountain ... Threw another coin in so we can come back again!!

An early morning walk around Rome as the sun was coming up over the spectacular buildings ....

A beautiful warm sunny day in Rome before we caught the late afternoon train to Florence ....

We have had another great day reacquainting ourselves with Florence .... Such a beautiful city ....

The old doorways are beautiful ...

We all had a great lunch today .... And another stunning old door in the background ....

And here is a colourful bunch of flowers in a market stall that caught my eye .... I have taken lots of photos .... Far too many to share ...

Tomorrow we head down to a villa in Tuscany for a week .... More photos to come !!

Beautiful lunch in Berry on the way up yesterday ....

And a spectacular view from our hotel ....

Such a gorgeous city and looking forward to our flight via Japan ...

This will become my travelogue for the next few weeks so there won't be much stitching to show !!

Stitching Gems

I finished off this lovely little scissor keeper the other night .... just in time to attach my travel scissors and pack into my "going away" bag .....

It was a lovely kit by Sue Hawkins and came to me all the way from the UK.  I do love her designs and particularly love the colours and painted button which came with this lovely little kit.

Here are a couple of gorgeous bags made by one of my Needlework ladies over the past couple of weeks .... the colours are great and I love the orange owl !

We have been crocheting up a storm at Needlework also and here is Shirley crocheting up a great length of chain stitch ... there were lots of laughs whilst learning to crochet !

I was taught to crochet when I was 10 years old (obviously many many years ago) by my grandmother and here is a picture of my sister and I with a rug which we she taught us to crochet.  My sister Wendy and I would sit on the bus on the way to school and crochet a couple of little motifs each day and we each made a rug .... such treasured memories !

Here is a cute photo of Ash and Clay just before they headed off on holidays for a week ... Ash knitted this cute little beanie for him to wear !

And David and I had to call in and say goodbye on our way to work one day last week as they were about to leave for holidays up north and they don't get back until after we depart on our holiday !   A whole month without cuddles with these little boys will be very hard but it will just making coming home all the more special !

We are heading to Italy and Croatia for a couple of weeks so there won't be much stitching happening, but there will lots of fun to be had with my sister and her husband and their adult children!   A week in a villa in Tuscany and a week sailing down the coast of Croatia should bring us some warmer weather and many happy memories !  I will try and post some photos as we go!
