Beautiful handmade bowl

This little monkey is Clay who is almost 2 .... he keeps us on our toes most Wednesdays with his big brother Jed ....

He is happiest when he is eating .....  and he is a clone of his mother, our daughter, Ash, at the same age ...

We had a quick trip to Canberra on Saturday to visit Bill who was in hospital after an operation ... we then took Kim out to lunch at the Kingston Foreshore and Bruce and Sylvia came and joined us .... here are Sylvia, myself and Kim enjoying a beautiful cocktail with lunch .... a "Berry Collins" ....

This morning I am admiring this beautiful handmade bowl which was a gift to me from my friend Jill ....

It is a work of art and so very special to have one of her beautifully handcrafted bowls ....

The little boys have been known to wear it as a hat .... she does such a wonderful job on putting these together .... I think I need a lesson !!!

I am enjoying my Tuesday off .... have done a bit of work on the computer, been swimming laps at the pool and am about to sit down and do a little bit of playing in my sewing room .... gotta love Tuesdays !!!!

Grandchildren and being creative !

It was lovely to have a day off work today .... my new routine for the year starting this week (a little late I know) is to have 2 days off a week .... then 3 ..... then all of them completely !!!  Maybe by the end of the year !!      Having a whole day to yourself is a treat .....

Elliott and Andrea bought Jonah a little table and chairs set which is very cutely placed in front of their aquarium where he can watch the fish while being creative ....

And here he is doing a handstand out of the pool on the weekend at their place .... such a cute little fellow !

So ..... my first day off had to include some activity and some stitching (my stipulation) so I gathered my swimming things together and headed off to the pool to do some laps ..... so nice to be back in the water doing laps for fitness and for some back problems .....

I came home and did a bit of tidying up in my sewing room ....

And then I started to look for this pattern for a Welcome cross stitch which I stitched many many years ago and which is on the wall in my sewing room .... couldn't find it anywhere .... does anyone know where it came from ???

And finally I got to sit in the sun this afternoon and do a little stitching .... dinner is simmering in the tajine and luckily I get to do this all again tomorrow with the little boys ....

Christmas Gift

These two little cuties helped their mum and dad deliver a late Christmas gift to David and I the other night ..... the framed picture is soooooo big (1.2m square) that they had to get Tim's brother to deliver it in his truck from the picture framer !    We sat the boys on the dresser in front of the photo so you will appreciate the size !!

Our four children and their wives and husbands have all selected 25 of their favourite wedding photos and Ash using her design skills, put them together into a huge photo which they then had framed ....

Alex Marks Photographer took all their wedding photos so it is a beautiful testament to his outstanding work .... and filled with so many amazing photos and memories .... through blurry teary eyes we both were overwhelmed with this amazing gift ......   and we can't stop looking at it  ..... every time we walk past it in the lounge room we see something new !!   Thank you to our amazing family  xxxx

Shepherds Bush Stocking and Home

We had a great weekend looking after Jed and Clay while their mum and dad went to Sydney for the weekend for a function.    Jed became the puzzle king and just loved trying to do every jigsaw puzzle in sight !

They helped us move the furniture back into our lounge room on Saturday after we had had the carpet lifted and the floorboards beneath sanded and polished .... they loved dancing around the room before the furniture was replaced !

Sam and Nadia took a walk up to North Head to visit the memorial to David's dad and his men .... it is always a moving visit whenever any of the family pay their respects ....

And in the quieter moments .... these two slept !

They were so excited that we had a "sleepover" at their place for 2 nights ... and suggested al fresco dinner of pizza ... so we complied !

It was a bit rainy on Sunday morning so we headed to Milton for morning tea and a play ....

And we managed to find a few puzzles on the way home for the "puzzle king" !

And finally the dust has settled from the sanding and the mess in our house over the past week, and I can think about getting out my next Christmas Stocking to stitch .... this one is Brett .... not sure who this one will be for yet ......  watch this space .....

Scissor Humbug

Finally happy with the size for this piece .... after a little quiet Sunday afternoon stitching ....

Pressed and started stitching together to form a cylinder .....

Then stitched the bottom one way and then the top the other way, inserting a twisted cord hanger in the centre .....

And I'm happy with this useful little scissor humbug/pincushion ...  adapted from a Sue Hawkins design for a glasses case ......

Australia Day Long Weekend

I spent a couple of days in Sydney last week looking after Jonah who had tonsillitis .... not much fun for him but it was fun for me ....   He still managed a smile despite a very sore throat .... all better now though !!

While he was sleeping I managed a little bit of work on my canvas work piece .... it is a Sue Hawkins design but I'm changing it a little so hopefully it will become a pincushion/scissor keeper ....

Jonah has become a very confident walker very quickly .... this was actually in the Doctors surgery last week

Luckily he was well enough for Elliott, Andrea and he to come down for the long weekend !  Here he is decked out in a green and gold flower lei which we found !!

Elliott introducing his son to lamingtons for the first time !!!

Surfing with Elliott ....

Bike riding fun with the cousins .... Jed and Clay ....

Last night was a warm night for a great outdoors barbecue .... these three little cousins had fun together !

And this morning before they headed back to Sydney, we enjoyed breakfast at Duke & Co. in Milton to celebrate Andrea's birthday which falls in the middle of this week !

Great news also to share that we will be grandparents again in early June when Elliott and Andrea are having their second baby .... much excitement ....... so Jonah will become a big brother !!!

40 years together !!!!

After finishing off my Shepherds Bush Christmas Stocking, I was looking for a little bit of different stitching for a change so I came across this Sue Hawkins design for a spectacles case which I started to stitch the other night .... I love the colours and always love a bit of canvas work .... but I think I will change it a bit and make it into something else ....

We are just back from a lovely weekend in Sydney celebrating 40 years yesterday since we met on a blind date .... obviously that blind date went well because here we are still together 40 years from the day we met ... we had a beautiful meal at LONGRAIN in Surry Hills on Friday night ....

When we met we had lunch at a cafe down near Circular Quay so we went back down yesterday morning to have a coffee there but it was all boarded up for renovations so we settled for the next best thing ... breakfast by our beautiful harbour ... pretty special backdrop there !!

There was a big cruise liner in at the Circular Quay port (I think it was the one my friend Tracey hopped off the night before??)  ....

After breakfast we wandered around past the Opera House and through the Botanical Gardens .... there was a harbour swim on just beside the Opera House which was spectacular with 100s of swimmers on such a beautiful day .... perfect weather ....

We celebrated with lunch at TETSUYAS in Sydney ....  simply spectacular and very very special ...

I know food photos are boring for some but everything was so beautifully presented .... it was all a work of art ....

It was a looooonnnngggg lunch ..... but we really loved it ...... then had to walk around the city for a couple of hours to walk it off .... such a special weekend indeed !!

So now we are back at home ...... have enjoyed a swim at the beach and a relax this afternoon after the hectic pace in the city .....
