A Weekend of Contrasts!

Firstly, hanging the washing out yesterday, I spied this magnificent Wisteria growing next door but one to our house. It has always been a favourite to embroider and the colours in real life are really beautiful!
And when I arrived home from work on Friday, our eldest daughter had arrived for the weekend from university in Sydney and had covered the dining table with her creativity! She is working on her final collection for her final year and has designed such fantastic patterns and fabrics for her range! Just a glimpse here, but when she finishes I can show you the real thing! Very proud of you Ash and your amazing creative gift, and nice to know that you secretly read my blog so this one is for you!
And lastly, we have watched for months as this Gymea Lily has grown atop a huge stalk! And finally, the flower head burst forth this weekend and it looks amazing - unfortunately my zoom is not fantastic - but you get the general idea! For those of you who aren't familiar with this plant - the flower is about the size of a basketball!

Next Weeks Project

Next weeks project for my Stitching Ladies is this very handy bag embellished with needleturn applique and an embroidered panel on the front. Made up in lovely pinks and greens - this is a bag designed by Sylvia which we taught earlier this year in Canberra. This is for all you Stitching Ladies to choose your colours and get them ready for next week!

Clever Wednesday Ladies!

Julie has finished off our little village applique quilt we worked on recently. She has used lots of blue and it really does look great. Well done Julie and happy travelling around in your caravan for the next two months! Lucky girl!
Shirley and Jeanette have both finished off their little strawberry scissor keepers this week and in the middle is Jeanette's blackwork (redwork) one which we made last year!
And Frances has finished off a lovely stitched bag in beautiful blues with bright red buttons holding the handles in place. Well done ladies - they all look fantastic!

A Glimpse of Canvas Work

Over the next couple of weeks leading up to the Stitching on the Lake and Stitching on the Bay days Sylvia and I will give you a small glimpse of some of our projects. Here is the early stages of the canvas work piece I have made. Colours are outside my normal "comfort zone" but I am happy with the end result! Keep watching for further "glimpses"!

Children Being Silly!!

Way back in May for Mothers Day my children gave me an album full of pictures they had taken at the beach for me! This is one of my favourites! There were of course some lovely ones of them all smiling nicely but this is really what they're like! And our youngest daughter arrived home from overseas on the weekend so we have had a great time hearing all her stories all weekend! Hence, not much stitching was done!

Knitted Socks!

How gorgeous are these knitted socks which were made for me by the Knitting and Blackwork Queen, Shirley? I bought a book a little while ago and gave it to Shirley as she is such a Knitting Queen, and she has thanked me beautifully by knitting these gorgeous knitted bed socks! I did model these this morning for my ladies when she gifted them to me! Thanks so much Shirley - they are really special!

Wednesday Morning Creativity!

Lots of my Wednesday ladies are so very clever - Tricia has made these gorgeous "folk arty" door names for her grandchildren and friends! They are beautifully painted and will look great on the doors of these lucky children!
Shirley has made this really bright and breezy quilt for someone very special to her - can't say who because I'm not sure that she knows yet! It really looks fabulous and the colours are strong and vibrant!
Kay and her daughter Kellie have jointly made this beautiful daisy quilt for a very very special daughter and granddaughter! It really is particularly special with Kay having completed the applique and Kellie putting together! Great team effort and a really special outcome!

And Sue was watching the TV the other night and learnt how to make this "chenille" quilt and she sat down on Sunday afternoon and whipped up this handy lap quilt! What clever ladies I get to stitch with on a Wednesday morning (and lots on Tuesday nights too!)

Blackwork Biscornu

"Biscornu" is a French adjective that means "that which has an irregular form, with projections" or "complicated and bizarre." So here is my blackwork biscornu which wasn't complicated or bizarre to stitch - but for those of you who love blackwork - this is fun!!

Coloured Felt

This is some of the felt I used for my Christmas Decorations! I bought it a while ago at one of the many Craft Fairs I have attended, and was just waiting for the right projects to spring to mind!

Christmas & Secluded Beaches

My felt christmas decorations are now finished and hanging on the tree (which I pulled from the back of the cupboard for this photo). These are fun to make and pretty simple but decorative! And a great way to use up all your little pieces of felt!

We had a lovely coastal walk today for about 6 hours! Through the bush and around many headlands, until we came to this tiny little beach all to ourselves where my dear husband cooked a fabulous little barbecue and we enjoyed the peace and tranquility! My legs are now aching!

Canvas Work Hanging

My favourite pair of Stork scissors are attached to this canvas work hanging which I stitched with variegated DMC threads. It is large enough so that I don't lose my scissors - always doing that! I now have so many pairs - each with a scissor keep attached - I should never lose them again!

Little Sewing Bag

Searching for my little tape measure this morning and I found it inside this lovely little sewing bag which Sylvia made for me. I think it is a Bronwyn Hayes design and I love it! I believe it was a bit fiddly to make but I really appreciate the effort Sylvia!

A Glimpse of Blackwork

I am nearly finished with this blackwork piece - note my 310 black DMC stranded cotton is looking fairly well worn! Will show the finished article soon hopefully!
This is a really handy pencil case made for me by Lisa a few birthdays ago - it is filled with pigma pens, pencils and all sorts of writing materials for my projects! The little buttons have my initials on them too! Very cute and very handy!

Embroidery Bits n Pieces

Our Garden Embroidery Raffle Quilt has now been beautifully quilted by Debbie - just needs the binding now and it's finished! Looks great!

A close up of Debbie's beautiful quilting - it has really made the embroideries stand out and looks gorgeous!

We have got lots of hexagons back for our Pink Ribbon Raffle Quilt - they are looking fabulous too!

Our Needlework Group also
sponsors a child through Compassion which is a Christian organisation and we donate regularly to provide her with opportunities she would otherwise miss out on! It is great reading her letters back and I write to her on behalf of all the Needlework ladies!
