Happy Easter ....... family time

Happy Easter everyone .... we are determined our days will be brighter now !!

We have been blessed by the amazing Alex Marks with a few of his edited wedding photos for Ash and  Tim .... they are amazing .... here is Chelsea, Ashleigh, Kaitlin and Kate ... looking beautiful !!

The light of our lives ... our four gorgeous children .... Elliott, Chelsea, Ash and Sam ....

And a lovely family shot .....

And the happy bride and groom ...

And today we heard there were more puppies where we got Nala from 16 months ago, so we went and saw these gorgeous 4 week old chocolate labradors .... one of them will be coming home with us in two weeks and we have decided to call her "frankie" .....

She will no doubt change in appearance in the next two weeks .... but at the moment we could take all these cute little female puppies home .....   she will be great company for Nala and a welcome addition to our family !!

Beautiful Flowers .....

Our sad week has been brightened by some beautiful flowers I thought I would share because I haven't picked up a needle and thread in the past week or so!   The funeral for my amazing 91 year old father in law, Frank, was yesterday and it was a fitting send off for an incredibly inspiring life .... thankyou to everyone for your beautiful messages and emails and telephone calls ... we appreciate all your thoughts and prayers ....

And we especially appreciate the ladies in my Needlework group who assisted us with the most beautiful morning tea after the funeral ... thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your willingness to jump in and help me in a time of need ..... especially to Jenny and Tricia for organising and co-ordinating, and to everyone who helped in any way ... it was amazing .... thank you !!

And to the friends who we work with who made sure the office ran smoothly in our absence, and to the dear friends who arrived with food and comfort (chocolate) ... you know who you are .... we appreciate  each and every one of you!

And to our children, their partners and families who made the week so much easier for us all ... many thanks ... Dadeda would have been very proud of his grandchildren as they said their goodbyes ....

And so this Easter we remember with great pride a truly amazing national treasure who will be sadly missed but always greatly cherished ..... his smile lives on in the faces of all the grandchildren and great grandchildren he leaves behind ....

And on a happy note to brighten our Easter some dear friends sent an arrangement of chocolates complete with smiley face to make us smile this Easter .... we have a lot to be thankful for ...

And on the smiling theme .... Ash and Tim have had a doubly difficult couple of weeks as they cope with the loss of a good friend whose funeral was today.   Chris was a surfer with an amazing smile, so Ash and Tim have designed and printed thousands of stickers saying "Smile like Drake" to distribute to the over 1000 people at the funeral and there are many facebook tributes to this amazing young man ... taken too soon at 23 years of age ... RIP Chris Drake .... xx

Yoko Saito books and stitching with friends ....

Wow ... what a beautiful parcel I received yesterday from Lynette Anderson at the Little Quilt Store!!!  I have long been a fan of Yoko Saito and when I saw Lynette advertise these two gorgeous books I knew I had to have them in my bookshelf ....  the first is called "houses, houses, houses!" ....

The second is "Scandinavian Quilts" and the bonus is that both books are the English versions which works well for me!!    Yoko is a celebrated quilt artist from Japan and I love that she uses such detail and her signature "taupe" colours ....

A cute little house from the first book ...

A little purse ...... from the first book ....

Birdhouses ....

A gorgeous bag from the "Scandinavian Quilts" book ....

I might need this useful sewing holder ....

And another beautiful bag .... all very inspiring !   If you desperately need either of these books you can order them from Lynette Anderson !

Last night was lovely at Needlework as we welcomed a group of ladies from Queanbeyan who joined us for stitching and laughter ....

All hard at work .....

And just to show I have been stitching .... I am putting the finishing touches on my Stitch A Long project for this month as well as doing some secret stitching for our upcoming Stitching Days !! All will be revealed eventually .....

And today we are celebrating out 33rd wedding anniversary ....   happy anniversary to the man of my dreams .... here we are holding some of the bouquets at our daughter's wedding on 1 December 2012!

Raffle Quilts and Finished Pieces!

Jenny bought along two gorgeous raffle quilts with her to Needlework this week.  She had quilted them for the Night Owls Patchwork Group and they will be raffled shortly ..... this is a colourful nine patch quilt ....

I did a nine patch swap a few years ago ..... so this is inspiring me to get them out and make a quilt like this !!

This is not the best picture ... but this is gorgeous .... all made in bright and breezy batik fabrics ...  I bought tickets in the raffle .... hoping to win !!

Jenny had also nearly finished off her Robyn Alexander needlecase and scissor poke which we did on the Needlework Cruise .... I loved working on this piece and have nearly finished off mine too !

And Sue made this cute little canvas pyramid hanger for her scissors !

Beth's Quilt .... Mother's Old Sayings ...

Beth has finished off her lovely quilt full of those wonderful old sayings your mother used to say ..... this was a block of the month (I'm sorry but I'm not sure where from) and it captures the very essence of those age old sayings ....  all so true ....

If it's worth doing it's worth doing well .....

Don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today ...

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush ....

A stitch in time saves nine ....   And now it's off to be quilted ..... can't wait to see what fun the quilter has with this !!

Needlework Bag or Doorstop??

This is a different idea for a project .... this design of mine was to make a small needlework bag to keep all your little bits and pieces together .... but Frances has decided hers (pictured below) she will fill with rice or sand and make a door stop!!!

I was just looking back through my Needlework Cruise photos and am still absolutely bowled over by the beautiful needleturn appliqué and hand quilting of Julie Adamson .... it was just divine!

I love anything paisley .... so this was right up my alley ... so much work but so very worth it!

Look at these tiny tiny needleturn leaves!!   Just exceptional!    I have been finishing off my projects for "Stitching on the Lake" in Canberra in April so will hopefully show them to you soon!!

Embroidered Pincushion & Thread Catcher

I put the finishing touches to my Embroidered Pincushion and Thread Catcher over the weekend .... and this is the result !

I love having one of these right beside my sewing machine to catch all the bits and pieces and the one that I had been using for years was sorely in need of replacement!

I love stitching a variety of flowers on the pincushion ...

And then the search is on for appropriate "weights" to hold it down and the perfect little pair of scissors to tuck into the scissor holder in the bag!   For my Needlework ladies .... we will be stitching this in a couple of weeks time!!
