Handmade and a Beautiful Quilt

The newest issue of Handmade is out and there is a great article about our Needlework Group ....

Some nice pictures and a lovely story about the ladies who I am lucky to stitch with each week ...

We had a weekend in Sydney with our gorgeous new grandson Jed  and here he is on the quilt made by the Tuesday night Needlework ladies .... cute as a button !!

Ash and Jed at the "Smile Like Drake" paddle out on Sunday at Shelley Beach in Sydney .... it was a year since Ash and Tim lost one of their best friends, Chris Drake, and the "Smile Like Drake" Foundation had a paddle out to commemorate his life and raise funds for surf awareness ... a great tribute to his life!

A Sashiko Shoulder Bag I have put together for our Needlework ladies to stitch in the coming weeks !

Chateau Rouge Quilt

Jenny has finished off her gorgeous Chateau Rouge Quilt which was one of our projects designed by Sylvia and myself for our Stitching in the Hills Retreat last August in the hills outside of Canberra!   Doesn't it look absolutely fantastic ?   Using the gorgeous Chateau Rouge range of French General fabrics and a few extras thrown in, she has made her quilt much bigger and it is just amazing ... looks beautiful Jenny ... well done!    Our Annual Retreat is on again this year on the first weekend in August .... if you are interested, please email me and I will provide details.

Elaine bought along some beautifully finished purses to Needlework on Wednesday too ... a larger one and a smaller one ... both with zippers ... such a gorgeous gift !

I was very fortunate on the Needlework Cruise to meet and spend some fantastic times with the gorgeous Judy Newman from "A Very Fine House" ... and I was very very lucky to come home with one of her beautifully created liberty print bags - lots of hexagons and beautifully put together .... filled with a little sewing project I'm working on ... I love it and it is a gorgeous reminder of a special new friend and a lovely working trip on the Cruise !

Another new and lovely friend is the lovely Jane MacDonald from Be Be Bold !!   I fell in love with her little purse design she was teaching on the cruise so got to it (in my spare time) and had fun stitching together this cute purse ....    before it was put together it looked like this ....

And now it's finished, complete with zip and my name on it ... so I guess I'll have to keep it !!  Very cute little stitching project ... thanks Jane!   And I'm lucky to be helping Jane out on her stand "Be Be Bold" at the Australasian Quilt Convention  in Melbourne on the 10th to 13th April .... so come and say hello if you are visiting !   I'm sure these little patterns and kits will be available !!

Beautiful Baby Quilt

I was absolutely bowled over last night when my Tuesday night Needlework ladies presented me (and David - as grandparents) with a beautiful quilt for our grandchildren to use!   They had secretly worked on the quilt while I was away teaching on the Needlework Cruise recently and it is absolutely beautiful ... here are some of the Tuesday night ladies who contributed to making such a beautiful gift!

Helen (who planted the seed) and an overwhelmed me with the beautiful quilt ...

And our gorgeous new grandson Jed who will be the first grandchild to enjoy this beautiful creation ...

And after all that excitement .... Shirley bought along her finished "My Favourite Things" quilt which she has now finished off ... this is an Anni Downs design and is absolutely gorgeous !  Well done Shirley !

Some very productive ladies in my Needlework group .... Tracey has finished off lots of projects and is well prepared for this coming Christmas ... not one, not two, but three Christmas Buntings, four little Mill Hill beaded Christmas decorations, and some stitched designs as well ... WOW !!!   Well done Tracey !

How beautiful are these gorgeous decorations?

And not to be outdone , Tracey's sister Dale produced lots of finished off pieces from way way back ... I think the oldest UFO in this picture is from 1998 ... you can't rush these things ... and lots of lovely finishes here by Dale ... gorgeous work girls !!

Sunny Saturday

What a beautiful day it has been here at home ....  a visit to the beach with eldest son Sam for a final surf at our home beach before he heads off to New York to live for 2 years .... here is David and Sam looking for that elusive wave ....

Got one ... albeit a little small ...

The dogs swam out to meet Sam ....

Chasing balls along the beach ....

I finished off this Arabian Nights canvas work piece for Lynne's birthday present during this week .... and then I inserted it into the lid of a Sudberry House Jewellery Box which I ordered from the UK ... I'm happy with the result and I think Lynne was too !!  Happy Birthday my friend!

I had ordered lots of these boxes from the UK for the Needlework Cruise and this is my Australian Wildflower Embroidery in the lid of another jewellery box ... which is now on my dresser with my jewellery inside it !   Something for me finally !!

The Quilted Crow, Hobart

The last port of call on the Needlework Cruise was Hobart and we had a wonderful visit to "The Quilted Crow" - the home of Leonie and Deirdre - who were very welcoming as we walked through the doors of this beautiful old church and into a patchworkers heaven ....

The old stone church is absolutely beautiful ...

And the inside did not disappoint us .... I have long admired this shop and was very keen to pay a visit and I have to say it was a highlight of our Cruise .... thank goodness the ship stopped in Hobart !!

Every way we turned there was an eye-catching display and something that just needed to come home with me !!

Beautiful fabrics and wool felts, lovely kits and patterns ...

And Sylvia and I enjoyed meeting Leonie and Deirdre ...

This is a little dark, but the stained glass windows are gorgeous ...

Beautiful quilts and potted flowers ...

Sylvia in a shopping frenzy ... we admired the beautiful quilt hanging over the railing on the top right of this photo ...

And I would love this to be my ironing corner of the world ... I could look at this gorgeous quilt all day!

If you are ever in Hobart do pay "The Quilted Crow" a visit and make sure you say hello to Leonie and Deirdre if they are at home ... it is a simply beautiful shop to visit!    And thank you to the ladies for making us feel so welcome and at home!
