Happy Australia Day !!

Hope all those who are in Australia are celebrating and having a wonderful Australia Day !!

If it were a sunny day, we might be enjoying the beach, but it's not .... it's cool and cloudy so we have taken the dogs for a very long walk and swim along the beaches, and followed that with a long long long bike ride .... now relaxing and contemplating some Australia Day stitching!

Natures Journey and Flowers

I have now received my "Natures Journey" pattern and am all ready to start the Stitch A Long in February !!   I have great plans to finish lots of projects this year .... you can all hold me accountable for saying this so early in the year !!

This is such a gorgeous quilt by Anni Downs of Hatched and Patched and the pattern is beautiful ...

I'm hoping my fabrics arrive soon so I can make a start .... February is not that far away !!!

We have had so much rain here lately that everything is growing at such a rapid rate .... I noticed these on the way to the letterbox earlier today ....

And these .... just gorgeous and vibrant and full of beautiful colours .... I feel an embroidered flower coming on !!

And I have finished off this stitchery today ... and am wondering now how to finish it off ... this is a cute design from Natalie Bird ....  I love a day off in the middle of the week !!

"Embroidery and Craft Cruise" 2016

I'm happy to announce that the brochure has been released online for the 2016 Needlework Tours "Embroidery and Craft Cruise" .... and I'm very fortunate to be tutoring on the Cruise !

You can check out the full brochure online here .... the Cruise departs on 20th March 2016 for 12 nights and there are some lovely classes to attend and some beautiful places to visit ....   The projects I will be teaching are this colourful Creative Canvas Work Biscornu and Scissor Fob .... lots of fun stitches to play with here ....

And this gorgeous Hummingbird Garden Garland .... you can almost smell the flowers ...

And for those wanting to explore Hardanger Embroidery .... this Elegant Hardanger Evening Bag ...

But there are lots of different classes to choose from, so have a look at the brochure and dream about spending 12 nights cruising the South Pacific, and stitching as you sail away .....  there is also a follow up cruise after the "Embroidery and Craft Cruise" which is called the "Patchwork, Quilting and Paper Craft Cruise" .... this Cruise departs on 1 April 2016 for 8 nights and also cruises the South Pacific .....  way too tempting .... I'm wondering whether I'd be allowed a leave pass to tutor on the first one and relax and enjoy the second one !!!

Wendy Williams Workshop

Sylvia and I had a really enjoyable day today courtesy of Berry Patchwork Shop and we joined in a workshop with Wendy Williams (Flying Fish Kits) who works and tutors at Material Obsession in Sydney (amongst other places).    Lots of lovely ladies, playing with lots of lovely felt and creating all sorts of gorgeous bits and pieces .... here are some photos of our day .... lots of amazing inspiration here ....

We were all working on covering little bags or work bags, or some were making pincushions ....

Lots of pearl thread and different stitches ...

Bright colours and gorgeous quilts of Wendy's for samples to share ....

A cute little covered case out of Wendy's book which was released recently ...

Amazing cushions ....

A rainbow of colours of pearl thread ...

Gathering around Wendy in navy in the centre left of photo whilst she explained some of her techniques ...

Some of Wendy's beautiful quilts ...

An amazing pincushion .... for someone who loves to play with felt ....

And at the end of the day .... some progress from some of the ladies who chose to do birds ....

And some of the other pieces being worked on throughout the day ....

And my little bit of playing with felt for the day ... this will become more involved and eventually cover a little sewing bag ....

We had a great day ... special thanks to Liz from Berry Patchwork Shop for organising and of course to the delightful Wendy Williams for a really enjoyable workshop !!

Blogging Yearbook 2014

I was just talking to Sylvia on the phone and telling her I had ordered my Blog to Print book for 2014 and that it should be arriving any day now .... and the postman delivered a parcel to my door !!

I chose an orange cover and a photo of David and I (with Jed photo bombing in the background) which was taken recently ....

It is lovely to sit in a quiet house with a nice coffee and browse through the year that has been ....

Beautiful family times with baby Jed .... stitching and creating memories .....

Fun stitching days with friends ... always seeking inspiration and creativity with needle and thread ..

The back cover has a photo of a decoration on the tree ....  I will add this book to my collection of blogging year books.  Since I started my blog in January 2009, I have, through Blog to Print, published my blog each year into a book which is full of lovely memories and which I use as a journal for my stitching and family life .... which amazingly crosses paths on many occasions !

And today on my day off work, I'm enjoying a quiet stitch on a little project for myself, when I really should be stitching together items for the coming Needlework year !!

Christmas Wishes Decoration

I have finished off the January project for the Stitch A Long .... while we are waiting on the arrival of the "Natures Journey" pattern, we were able to stitch one of Anni Downs free designs .... and here it is .... made up into a little cushion .... my first Christmas decoration for 2015 !!  I used one of the Cottage Garden variegated threads .....

I plan to make a decoration each month this year .... hopefully I will stick to that plan !!

Christmas Gift

This is a little bit of a late post, but now that Sylvia has received her gift I made for her, I can share it here ....I had fun stitching one of Lynette Andersons designs and making it up into a zippered sewing bag .... I stitched in a variegated blue thread and attached some wooden painted buttons which came with the pattern for the stitchery ....

I quilted the fabric by machine, put in a zipper and thoroughly enjoyed this simple yet effective stitchery !

Stitching Bag

As part of our Friends in Stitching swap we each received a small stitchery to complete (before the beginning of March) and make into something useful.   I received this cute little Rosalie Quinlan design from Roseanne (Razzy) for my small gift and decided it was simple stitching to do over a couple of nights .... now completed ....

And made into a handy sewing bag ... and way ahead of the March date for completion!!!  Pretty happy with that !!    And as she had lovely polka dot wings, I found some nice blue polka dot fabric to make the bag from.  Lined and with a ribbon ... all done !!

And so after 2 weeks holidays, we are back to work tomorrow .... we are going to miss our morning swims and time at the beach and playing with Jed ... who has taken to surfing like a duck to water ... which is just as well as he has been born into a keen surfing family ..... I'll leave you with this cute photo taken the other morning .... standing up and surfing with his dad at 10 months of age !!

Wendy Williams

I'm just enjoying a coffee and a browse through Wendy Williams book .... Wild Blooms and Colourful Creatures ... Such a wonderfully colourful and vibrant book and inspiring us to step outside the comfort zone and play a little differently!

I'm lucky to be going to a class she is holding in Berry later in January so am looking forward to that!

"Natures Journey" Stitch A Long

I have again joined the Stitch A Long group to stitch this years project which is Anni Downs new quilt "Natures Journey" .... Anni of "Hatched and Patched" has only just finished the quilt and is writing and printing the patterns at present,  so we don't even have a full photo at present .... but here are a couple of  snap shots provided by Anni to give you a bit of an idea ....

I always love the fabrics and colours in Anni's quilts and this will be my fourth Stitch A Long quilt which will hopefully be completed by the end of this year !!   If all goes according to plan !!

If you want to find out about joining the Stitch A Long group run by Chookyblue, you can check it out here!    And because the pattern isn't quite available yet for Natures Journey (so don't ring and hassle Anni Downs about that) Chookyblue has provided us with a little project to keep us busy for January ... with the plan that we start making the quilt in February !    The little stitchery is a free stitchery from Anni Downs at http://hatchedandpatched.typepad.com/hatchedandpatched/2014/12/a-free-pattern-for-christmas.html

Victorian Hexagon Bag

I have finally put together this cute little bag pattern which I bought from Threadbare in Castlemaine when I was down there in November!

It will serve as a lovely reminder of a relaxing and stitch filled weekend away with some good friends at Mill Rose Cottage in Ballan, Victoria .... Such a blissful place for a retreat!!  So ....  76 hexagons later and it went together easily and is now filled with some of my sewing essentials .... And some lovely memories!    Here it is before I put it together ....

I loved putting this together .... Might need another visit to Threadbare soon !!
