Natures Journey is finished !!

Finally I have pieced together the top of my "Natures Journey" quilt ... this was such fun to make and I'm a bit sad to come to the end of the quilt .... but there are so many other things to get onto !!!  I always tend to change patterns and this was no different .... I put 5" squares around the outside of my finished centre ...

Then the appliqué borders were stitched together and sewn on ...

The the little 2" colourful border around the outside ....

And finally the blue background fabrics around the outside ... varying lengths ... to finish it off !

This has been good therapy whilst I've been sick at home ... my eyes won't let me do fine embroidery at the moment so the only other option was to put together this quilt by machine !

Finished August Natures Journey Block

There has to be some benefits to being at home in quarantine for another 2 days  .... I have finished my August "Natures Journey" block finally .... those 46 little squares took forever to sew on !!!

Finally went to the doctor yesterday and he told me I had a serious virus and needed to stay quarantined at home for another couple of days ....  so that means that although feeling pretty ordinary, I have been playing in my sewing room a little bit ... it also means that I don't get to go anywhere near Jed  ....so we had to have a FaceTime fix this morning ....

Natures Journey - further progress

I'm at home again with the flu and after having had a couple of hours of sleep, I now feel like doing something creative ..... so I have added the pieced borders around the outside of the centre and then added the brown border ....

It all looks a bit plain until the 46 little coloured squares are added ... in this case they are only pinned on and ready to stitch .... if I could find some sunshine to sit in, I might just stitch some of them this afternoon .....

Natures Journey Quilt

My "Natures Journey" quilt has taken a bit of a back seat lately due to three and a half weeks overseas and preparation for our Stitching in the Hills Retreat .... but I am back on track now .... here is the July centre all finished ....

I have cut all the borders to go around the outside of this block and then have to sew on lots of little 2" squares before piecing together the quilt .... I may not make the deadline of the end of September but just need a little sewing machine time to fit into my week .... not very easy when you are battling a flu with ear ache and no voice!   Hopefully the next few days will see an improvement and I can go back to work and have a little bit of night time sewing therapy !

Stitching in the Hills 2015

We had a thoroughly enjoyable weekend at Warrambui in the hills behind Canberra for our annual "Stitching in the Hills" weekend retreat .... and what fun it was!  It is always lots of work to organise, design and make the kits, and make sure it all comes together and when the weekend finally arrives, we do realise it is well worth the effort.  This year we had 60 ladies join us for a weekend of stitching and fun and here are some of the photos to share .... I took this as I arrived on Friday afternoon ... it was a spectacular day in the hills ....

After a couple of hours of setting up the bags were all packed and tables decorated, quilts hung and everything ready to go ....

Table numbers decorated in the rainbow theme ....

The sun set on a beautiful day as the ladies were enjoying a lovely dinner inside ....

After dinner all was revealed as we slid back the doors to the conference room and revealed the projects and the bags containing kits and fabrics and threads and the patterns for our designs, together with a special gift for each lady .... lovely William Morris coffee mugs .... my project was a Felt Embroidered Tote Bag which I had lots of fun designing and using beautiful pure wool felt ...

And Sylvia's project was this gorgeous cushion using the same felts and threads .... lots of stitching fun for the ladies to choose from ...

Asta was busy photographing the contents of her bag so I slipped in over her shoulder and took a photo too ...

Sylvia and I ....

The ladies all had fun stitching the weekend away ....

We are always very fortunate to have Najelle and Terrie from Hobbysew Belconnen come out and join us for the day on Saturday and bring lots of lovely things to tempt us .... here are some of the ladies shopping up a storm !!

The weather was perfect so we all enjoyed morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea outside ...

The new coffee machine was a hit especially for morning and afternoon tea ....

Some of ladies enjoying a break from their stitching ...

60 ladies all hard at work ....  I have lots more photos to share including the photos from our Rainbow Themed Dinner on Saturday night ... I will share those tomorrow .....
